Packaging Scams

Lets talk about cheating with packaged foods. Did you think I meant cheat days? Well we don't do them here...we have feel good meals!!

So some packaged foods I think are essential, I'm never going to make my own bread or my own protein bars when there are perfectly brilliant ones out there for me to go out and buy (Milk Roll and Grenade bars are my choice if your interested). Frozen foods and mini snack packs of jammy dodgers are also logged in this weeks My Fitness pall, so I totally think they have their place!

HOWEVER, some foods are loaded with much more sugar and fat than they need to be. This normally means more calories that you could simply avoid by swapping it up, granola is one of the main offenders!

So what do the shops do? They market them very sneakily to try and pull you in!

So for instance reduced fat peanut butter (in one 20gram serving) there are 109 calories and of 6.7g fat. In the normal one there is 10.4g of fat and 120 calories, so is it really that big of deal?

Its the same with most things so its always good to check out the normal product and see if its worth it, nutrients, macro split and cost!

Now for the EXTRA PROTEIN marketing scam!

So for example, one ''extra added'' protein Granola brand I looked at the protein was 5.7g per 20g, compared to a normal granola at 1.7g per 20g, and it was tons more expensive and the calories pretty much the same!

Also, are you only eating this because its ''high protein'', and your having extra fat and carbs just to get those extra few grams of protein? (which wont even be complete proteins by the way, meaning containing all the essential amino acids.)

Anyway weigh up the calories, macros and cost and if its worth it, do it!

I see granola as CARBOHYDRATE, and a totally tasty one...check out the latest blog post in the community to see what my secret ingredient is, you can find it HERE.
