How to live a healthy lifestyle and keep the kids entertained
Making it fun for the kids...
So with a 5 year old and a 2 year old, twins or a new born baby, how can your healthy lifestyle be fun for them too?
As a family we love the great outdoors, it’s much easier being outside, if I look at my laptop for more than 5 minutes Jesse has managed to buy 1000 coins on Minecraft and Wilder has managed to get every tuppawear out the cupboard and filled with water (who am I kidding, juice!).
Finding something to do for Wilder in between his naps and the school runs with Jesse is tough, but we manage, even if it means Wilder only getting an hour in the park when Jesse used to spend all day there, picnic and all!
So how do we find time to be active as a family too?
Wilder is less and less in the pushchair now and Jesse is whizzing off on his scooter so how do we do it? We walk....we walk from one park to another when we can so Wilder can get out for 5 minutes, tear the place up and then back in the pushchair he goes so we can get a sweat on and Jesse can scooter ahead. When Jesse is at school I get the running buggy out and run between parks, or from the school home. I basically fit in what I can.
When you have children it becomes less about achieving a certain distance, a certain speed or completing a certain class, the achievement comes from just fitting something in.
If you have a list with 100 things on it, it becomes daunting and definitely not fun, when you break that list down into smaller more manageable lists it all of a sudden starts to look achievable and not so stressful. Don't think about running a marathon, getting a bikini body and perfecting a routine for the baby, aim for one successful nap, making one small change to your diet and reach 10 thousand steps a day. If you want the change bad enough it will happen but work towards it in manageable chunks and have some family fun too.
When there is snow, like in recent weeks, or rain everyday then sometimes getting out is difficult. There is always soft play and play groups (I am one of these mums that took my 4 week old to a play group, not with Wilder, I'd realised by then it really didn't matter if I sang to him at home or at the library) but eating toast and drinking lattes doesn't really get my fit bit going so I exercise at home. I exercise when the kids are napping if I'm lucky, or if they have let me have a good night sleep I might get up a little earlier and get it done. I will get a shoulder workout in learning important life lessons from Peppa Pig, and do some press ups while pretending to be a Horsey!
I love being outdoors, getting my activity in where and when I can and when the north east weather doesn’t allow it I opt for quick HIITS indoors, im extra mindful with my food choices and I enjoy the family time knowing I will get there, just not that second.
